Simon, The Gurren Lantern
Chapter 6:
Our Will Shall Never Die!

“I swear it, I formed a Giga Drill when my ring was running on fumes.”

“That’s odd,” said Kyle Rayner over the communications device built into the Green Lantern ring, “It shouldn’t be able to do that.  Got any idea on how you pulled it off?”

“Well, it did feel like I was channeling my Spiral Energy through the ring,” said Simon, “Do you think that’s possible?”

“At this point I’d believe anything,” said Kyle, “I’ll have the tech guys look into it, if they aren’t already.”

“Simon!  Your lunch is ready!”

“It smells delicious,” replied Simon, “Kyle, I’ve gotta go to my other job.  Talk to you later.”

“Of course.  Lantern Rayner out.”

Simon picked up his lunch, kissed his wife, and went off to work.

“Hey guys, I found something!” shouted Simon as he was drilling away.  The other miners broke off a piece of rock to reveal a yellow mineral.

“Simon, I think this is gold,” said one of the miners.  He took a piece of the substance, bit into it, and said, “Yeah, this is gold.”

“Dang, how do you keep finding this stuff?”

“I’m just a simple digger,” said Simon as he went to dig the gold out.  Suddenly, explosions were heard outside.  Simon dropped what he was doing and rushed outside to find various yellow masses destroying the mine.

“Exterminate! EXTERIMINATE!”

“Kushin?  What are you doing here?” shouted Simon.

“So, the Green Lantern comes,” said Kushin, “Why should I tell you that our plans require the metals mined here?”

“You know you could have just bought them,” snarked Simon.

“Well, yes, but that would not have instilled fear within these fools.”

“Is that seriously all you do?” asked Simon as he changed into his Green Lantern uniform and fired a blast at Kushin.

“Why should I not do what I am good at?” retorted Kushin as he redirected Simon’s blast and fired one of his own.  Simon threw up a shield to block the blast.

“I’ll try this once,” said Simon, “Surrender peacefully and I guarantee the Green Lanterns will be fair.”

“I shall never surrender to a piece of Spiral scum!” exclaimed Kushin, “You shall be crushed before the might of an Anti-Spiral Elite!”

“A what now?” asked Simon.

“An Anti-Spiral Elite!” replied Kushin, “I am of a finer breed, the highest class of warrior!”

Simon just stared at him with a confused look.  Kushin sighed and said, “Alright, think of yourself as pig-mole jerky while I am filet mignon!”

“Oh, I like both those things!” said Simon, “And now I want some filet mignon.”

Kushin was quiet for a moment, then he said, “I am going to start hurting you now.  I am not sure when I will stop.”

“Hopefully before lunch.  Nia made me a-UGHH!” Simon said before he was interrupted by a hard yellow fist to the gut.

“Exterminate the Green Lantern!” shouted Kushin as he brought down a giant yellow hammer onto Simon.  Simon formed a shield to block the attack, then pushed up and blasted Kushin.  He then constructed a nodachi and egged Kushin on.

“Amateurish at best,” said Kushin as he formed two swords in his hands.  The two then began to go at each other, each blocking the other’s attacks.  However, Kushin soon gained the upper hand, forcing Simon onto the ground and attempting to strike him with both swords.  Simon blocked both the swords and waiting for an opening.  As soon as Kushin began to let up his attack a little, Simon sent out a shockwave that sent Kushin tumbling across the ground.  The Anti-Spiral got up to Simon rushing at him and making a number of precision cuts.

“A futile effort,” said Kushin as his wounds healed, “You shall not stop our plans!”

“I already wrecked your fleet and destroyed your planet,” said Simon, “I beat you! Why are you still doing this?”

“We will to teach the Spiral Races of the risk their existence holds,” said Kushin, “If they will not learn, they will be EXTERMINATED!”

Kushin trapped Simon in a yellow cylinder and flung him away from the battlefield, but Simon broke out of the cylinder and formed a medium sized drill in front of him.  He then dive-bombed Kushin, catching him by surprise before diving into the earth.

“Where did you go?” said Kushin as the hole in his torso closed up.  He got his answer soon enough, as a giant green fist rose up from the ground and sent him fling.  Simon resurfaced and formed a large bident that formed a small double helix out of the bases of its two long points.  Simon threw this bident at Kushin like a javelin, and it went through him up to the double-helix hilt.

“Had enough?” asked Simon, “You going to come in quietly now?”

Kushin broke Simon’s construct, flew at Simon, and began to put Simon under a barrage of yellow fists.  Simon did his best to block them, but a few managed to make their mark.  Simon stopped the barrage by sending out a fist construct of his own, pushing Kushin back a few meters.  Kushin immediately became extremely angry and fired a giant yellow beam at Simon.  Simon threw up a green dome to block it, but Kushin just increased his power.

“Exterminate!  EXTERMINATE!  EEEXTERRRMINNNAAATE!”

Simon found it hard to keep his construct up under the pressure of the blast.  Soon, cracks began to appear, and Simon could feel that the dome was about to break.

“Your will is strong, Simon,” said Simon, “You can hold out a little longer.”

Suddenly, Kushin’s blast stopped.  Simon looked up to see Kushin holding his forehead, screaming in pain.  He looked back to see his boss holding a handgun, still aimed right at Kushin.

“That hurt, you trash!” said Kushin after he screamed his heart out.

“Ready men?” shouted Simon’s boss.  At that moment, all the miners popped out of the cover they had hid behind, all holding a gun aimed right at Kushin.

“Fire!”

All the miners fired their weapons, putting Kushin in a shower of bullets.  Kushin squirmed in pain as the bullets struck his body and bounced off the protective barrier the yellow ring gave him.  This went on for a minute before he sent out a shockwave that pushed everyone but Simon to the ground.

“Why do you insist on fighting when there is no hope for victory?” shouted Kushin.

“Simple,” said Simon, “It’s because our will shall never die!”

Simon formed an irregularly shaped cone over his upper body and rushed at Kushin.  Kushin tried to block the attack, but the cone just broke through the shield.

“KITTAN STINGER!”

Kushin screamed in pain as the cone went right through his torso.

“Now eat this Head Splitter!”

The cone construct split in two, causing a large gash that extended from Kushin’s shoulder to his hip.  Kushin fell to the ground, clutching his torso and screaming as hard as his damaged lungs could allow.

“Alright, now you’re under arrest,” said Simon.

“Even if you were to do that, we still have what we came for,” said Kushin.

“Wait, what?” asked Simon.  He heard a loud noise as two yellow trails of light flew to the sky.

“Oh, that,” said Simon.  Kushin then sent out a shockwave and rose into the air, forming a shield around him as he did.

“We shall meet again, Spiral Warrior,” said Kushin, “And next time, you will be EXTERMINATED!”

Kushin flew off, leaving Simon feeling slightly defeated.
