Kingdom Pokémon
Chapter 2
Of Gym Leaders and Nuisances

Ash and the gang were heading towards Sunyshore city.  They had just met Sora, Riku, and Kairi, and were discussing some of the many aspects of the Pokémon world.  Riku was verifying everything with some files Jack had left him if certain subjects came up.

"And that's how you evolve Pokémon," said Ash, finishing his lecture on Pokémon battling.

"It's interesting how Pokémon gain all that mass in a matter of seconds," said Sora.

"I wonder that too," said Riku, "Oh, Jack left me a note. 'I don't understand it either.'"

Suddenly, a giant Ambipom with an 'R' on it's chest appeared.  Its two tails grabbed Pikachu and Piplup.  Their trainers both yelled.

"Listen, is that a voice I hear?" said Jessie, appearing from the head of the robot.

"Not Team Rocket again," said Ash in a tired manner.

"It speaks to me loud and clear," said James.

"On the wind."

"Past the stars."

"In your…Hey!" shouted Meowth.  The reason for the interruption of Team Rocket's motto was the fact that Sora and Riku chose that moment to slice the Ambipom's tails and grab Pikachu and Piplup as they fell, returning them to their trainers.

"No fair!  You're supposed to wait for us to finish our motto," said Jessie in her usual manner.

"I never understood that," said Sora, climbing the robot and landing in front of them, "Hitting the bad guy while he's ranting is always a good tactic."

"Sunyshore's that way," Kairi said, grabbing Meowth.  The two immediately headed toward the city with Team Rocket in hand.

"How did you do that?" asked Ash to Riku.

"Practice.  A lot of practice," said Riku.

Sora and Kairi entered Sunyshore to be greeted by Officer Jenny.

"Just what do you think you're doing?" asked Jenny.

"Looking for the local police force," responded Sora.

"Look no further."

"Well then," said Sora, "Arrest these three for attempted theft of Pokémon."

"We have names, ya know," said Meowth.

"Wait, those R's," said Officer Jenny, "Are you three from Team Rocket?"

"Why, yes we are," said James.

"My second cousin in Vermilion said that the Rockets are increasing their criminal activities," said Jenny, "Here's a photo of her."

Officer Jenny pulled out a photo of the Jenny from Vermilion.  The only noticeable difference between the Jenny in the photo and the Jenny standing right there was the symbol on the hat.

"Are you sure you're not identical twins?" said Kairi.

"No," responded Jenny, "my twin sister works in Eterna City."

It was at that moment that the rest of the gang came in and Brock went into his usual 'hot girl, gotta hit on her' mode.  He was interrupted by a Poison Jab in the back, courtesy of Croagunk.

"Does that happen a lot?" Sora whispered to Ash.

"Constantly."

"Officer Jenny," said Riku looking through Jack's files, "Another note.  'I don't know how all the Joys and Jennys look the same.  I'm half convinced that they have a cloning machine.'"

"I'll just take these three to the station," Officer Jenny said and drove away.

"Team Rocket's in custody.  I won't have to deal with them anymore…YES!!!!!!!!!" Ash screamed to the heavens, and he immediately began to do a dance that he shouldn't have done in public.  It wouldn't have mattered though, because Riku was catching the whole thing on camera.

"This goes straight to Youtube," said Riku.

The gang arrived at the Sunyshore Gym to find it locked up tight.

"How am I going to fight Volkner for my badge?" asked Ash.

"You may not have to," said Kairi.  Everyone turned to see what could only be described as a badge vendor.  Any idiot could just walk up and take an armful of badges without actually doing anything.

"Isn't that against the rules?" asked Sora.

"Yes.  Yes it is," said Brock with a disgusted look on his face.

"I want an honest fight for my badge!" yelled Ash, pounding at the door.  Immediately a giant arm came out of the wall and grabbed Ash.  Riku was quick to cut it and Sora was quick to use the Keyblade to unlock the door.  They immediately entered the gym to see Volkner standing in the battle arena.

"Listen, Volkner, you're going to have an honest battle with Ash for a badge," said Sora.

"What's the point," said Volkner in a depressed way.  He immediately found a blade pressed against his throught.

"The point is that you'll be injured if you don't," said Riku from behind him.

"Not to mention the Pokémon League wouldn't like to hear that you've been giving away badges," said Brock, "If you're lucky you'll keep your job."

Volkner nodded his head and he and Ash took different sides of the arena.

"Three on Three, only challenger gets substitutions," said Volkner.

"Agreed," said Ash.

"Go, Jolteon."

"Go, Gible!"

The two Pokémon took the field and stared off.  Volkner ordered a Shadow Ball, but Gible dodged by using Dig.  Volkner then ordered a Thunderbolt down the hole, but before Jolteon could completely charge up, Gible struck from underground.  A Rock Smash was all it took to end the battle.

"That was actually kind of fun," said Volkner, "Go, Raichu!"

"Go, Pikachu!"

The two immediately began a barrage of Quick Attacks and Thunderbolts.  During all of this, Sora yelled out.

"Ash!  Never let your enemy get behind you!"

Ash soon realized what Pikachu had gotten into and ordered a Thunderbolt aimed behind him.  This gave Ash an idea.  He ordered Pikachu to use Agility.  Pikachu became so fast that Raichu lost sight of him.  Then Pikachu used Volt Tackle from behind.  The result was a fainted Raichu.

"This is GREAT!  I haven't had a battle like this in years!" said Volkner with new life, "Go, Electivire!"

Ash called out Infernape, and the battle began with Electivire attempting an Ice Punch, but Infernape dodged and used Mach Punch.  This also missed.  Soon the battle was a barrage of missed punches.  This ended when Infernape jumped to dodge and hit Electivire square in the back with Flame Wheel.  Infernape then executed another Flame Wheel, but before it hit, Electivire used Fire Punch.  The two attacks colliding resulted in a massive explosion.  When the dust cleared, Electivire was on the floor and Infernape was standing tall.

"And thus, the battle is done," said Sora.

When Volkner recalled Electivire, he said, "That was the best fight I've ever had.  As proof of your victory here and thanks for renewing my spirit in battling, I give you the Beacon Badge."

Ash took his usual victory stance, which Pikachu and Infernape joined in on.

"Does he do that every time he achieves something?" asked Kairi.

"Proof is in the video," said Riku, and he showed Kairi a video montage of Ash's victory poses (courtesy of Jack).

"So, eight badges," said Sora, "That means you can enter the Pokémon League, right?"

"That's right," said Ash.

"But before that, I have some killer stories to tell," said Riku.

The gang headed toward the Pokémon Center; ready to tell tales of the past.
